Who's pumpkin is better?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN AGAIN!!

Straight to the important part... the pumpkins.
Who's pumpkin is better? That's right... I'm super competitive with my hubby.
He's good at everything so I'm allowed. Right hubby? Right.

So... WHO HAS THE BETTER PUMPKIN!
Left is Mike's
Right is Marci's

I love it when my camera doesn't focus. Sarcasm.

MMMM... Candy.
I was very excited to hand out candy tonight!
We had around 24 kids.. (up front 10 last year) which makes me one happy pregnant lady.
I remember when I was younger and there were hundreds of kids everywhere.
After seeing everyone tonight, I'm looking forward to dressing Baby Hira up next year.
In the meantime, we have some bigger issues to focus on.. like left over candy.
Here are some pictures of the bags we made up.

That's right. We gave out playdoh.
Hope everyone had a great night!
xo

Halloween and a baby skeleton?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
I am so happy I found make it and love it. It was the perfect costume for this year.

Plain t-shirt from Wal-Mart (in the men’s department of all places)
Fabric paint
Freezer paper
Paint brush (had one)
Iron
Xacto knifePen

How to:

1. Cut a piece of the freezer paper to the size I wanted for the shirt.
2. I had to freehand the ribs and baby skeleton on the freezer paper because the website didn't offer a stencil.
3. Used a cutting board and carefully cut out the stencil using the Xacto knife.
4. Placed the cut freezer paper on the shirt where I wanted it, shiny side against the fabric, and ironed it (without steam) so the paper stuck to the shirt.
5. Put a piece of cardboard in between the shirt so the paint didn’t soak through onto the other side.
6. Blotted the paint with the paintbrush carefully, covering all areas. Did 2 more coats.

7. Dried overnight.
8. Carefully pealed off the freezer paper.
9. Put a piece of fabric over it and ironed again to seal the paint... (again no steam)
And voila!

All about baby

Look at this bump! I've waited so long to experience this and I am loving it.

Me attempting a "normal" smile. Cheeeeese.

I can't believe how fast time flies.
This whole baby thing is very new to me since I've never been pregnant and have rarely been around pregnancies/kids. I'm the one who doesn't know how to play with kids. I'm lucky to have my brother and sister-in-law around now (they moved here a year ago) so they can offer me advice and I can practice my matante (aunt) skills on my niece and 2 nephews! (10, 6, and 3)

Baby update

  • Husband felt baby move for the first time on Saturday.
  • We went to my brother's for a random turkey dinner and I had a slice of pumpkin pie, cheesecake, and ice cream for dessert.
No, I'm not saying that to rub it in your face.
    Yes, it was yummy.
Yes, there's a point to this.
Our baby boy likes dessert! He was moving around like crazy. Pretty awesome.
  • My Tata's have grown again! What. I can't enjoy something I've never had?
  • Leg crampzilla: When you feel like you've walked up 1000 stairs and your calf wants to explode. Not. Fun.
  • Heartburn. Tums are my best friends.
  • Nursery is 90% done. Just a little more decorating to do. Pictures will come soon.

Oh.. one more thing.
I seen this outfit at the mall several times and finally decided to buy it.
I love ducks. You should see my rubber ducky collection.. no kidding.

Soooo cute!

Love

That is alllll for now.

Paleo again?

I think my goal is going to be following a more Paleo driven lifestyle.
Not sure how that will work.
Do you know why it's so difficult for me to eat healthy?
My tastebugs hate about 95% of healthy food.
It's really not that fair.
Those peppers and that chicken breast look delicious but my tongue says otherwise.
I write about food and the baby goes on a kicking spree. Hmm. Maybe it's a sign.
I'm going to start posting more information and recipes on Paleo so people can understand the difference between that lifestyle and other "diets".

But getting healthy is seriously an easy concept.

- Eat healthy
- Exercise
- Reduce stress

Well I'm off to get ready now.. We're going to my brother's for a turkey dinner. Mmmm.
I don't like chicken but I love turkey!
I will start eating better after Halloween. Too much candy on the table right now...

Glymm

I LOVE GLYMM!

The girl who did my wedding make-up introduced me to Glymm. It's basically the same as Birchbox but the Canadian version. I get so excited waiting for it to arrive each month. It's the best $10 treat I spend on myself. I think they went up to $12 for new subscribers though.. hmm.. either way. It's fantastic and I'm here to tell you about it.

What is Glymm?

Glymm is a monthly subscription of beauty samples from known brands.
As a member, each month you get:
  • An eco-friendly make up bag (different color usually)
  • 4-5 samples
  • Special offers
  • Loyalty Rewards Program
See Loyalty Rewards Program information here

Most of the time there's at least one full-size product, which in my opinion, is worth the $10. I have a collection of make up bags sitting on my dresser already. They will make great Christmas presents.. That's right. I have no shame.

On with the show...

OCTOBER'S GLYMM BOX - Breast Cancer Month

Products received:

1. Bag. The bag is pink. LOVE.
2. Ribbon. Nice little touch to the bag.
3. Johnson & Johnson's baby oil. BONUS. I was a bit curious why this was in here but then I noticed the sticker. As a mommy-to-be, I'm actually quite excited to see more of this Mama Glymm! I'm also excited because I'm currently running low on baby oil and it's a perfect make up remover.
4. Lash Card. Meh. A card so you don't get make up on your eyelid. I don't need these nor will I ever spend money on them.
5. Baby Buttercreme. Never heard of this before but it says it's good for "softening and growing out natural hair". I have no problem giving this baby a try.
6. Cyberderm H20 Hydration and Every Morning Sun Whip: A moisturizer and SPF that I will probably not use. I'm not into the whole anti-aging creams and all that jazz. I prefer my SPF thanks.
7. Femme Couture Lightening Last Mascara. Saving the best for last. LOVE IT. I absolutely love mascara and am so happy to have gotten a full size one this month!

Overall, I give this box 5/5 simply beause of the mascara but I'm also thrilled about the baby oil, bag, and buttercreme. Great job Glymm!

Updating blog

This week has been horrible for me when it comes to updating this blog.
My goal starting tomorrow is to write at least 1 post a day. I have a lot to say and to share..just haven't had the energy lately.
This leg cramp is driving me insane. I think I need sleep.
11:24pm.
Late.

Goodnight peeps.

Anxiety is a bitch

It's the most debilitating thing in my life.

A couple of months ago, I was diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder.
Short definition: I have unrealistic fears about everything.
The psychiatrist wants me on anxiety medication but since I'm pregnant, he told me to wait.
Which is fine by me.
I don't "believe" in medication for myself.
Now, don't get me wrong. I understand the purpose of it but I've also seen the bad sides to it and refuse to end up feeling like a zombie. I simply don't want to rely on taking a pill to make me feel "normal" even though people swear by them.
It scares me.
Ha. That's funny now that I think about it.
Anyways, I've been going to counseling and learning cognitive behaviour therapy techniques which is helping.

How does anxiety directly affect my life?
Here are some examples.

My walk last night:
  • "It's dark out. We're going on a path. Is it lit? Are there houses around it? Are there people nearby? What if someone jumps us? What can I use for a weapon to protect myself? What if I trip and fall? What if something happens to the baby while we're walking."

Going on a plane: (Ugh.. the worst)
  • Bad dreams. Heart races. I start to shake. I start to worry. I sometimes cry (been working on this)
If the pilot is around, I talk to him or I talk to him on the plane. I ask about turbulance.
  • Then I question things like: "What if the plane crashes? Will there be turbulance? Whats the weather going to be like? What if someone hijacks the plane? What if someon causes problems? What if theres an emergency? What if theres a fire?"
  • Then I go through the process of praying to my nanny and grampy to watch over us and to be there for us if something happens. I start to accept my death.

See??
Nobody understands what goes through my mind on a daily basis.
Do you know how physically and emotionally draining it is?

It took me 5 years and my grandmother's funeral before I finally flew back home after I graduated high school. 5 YEARS! All because of a 6 hour flight.
Last year I went to Orlando, Florida for our Honeymoon. What a long flight... 7 long... long hours. But I went.
I'm done being controlled by this fear.
I should probably add that I had little pills to help me relax.
A temporary solution which I'm fine with.

These are just examples.. but basically anything I see on the news, I start to worry about it.
I will overcome this. I will not let my child see me this way.
"Yep, you see that (ugly disgusting spider that makes me want to scream)? Oh that's nothing.. isn't he cool looking"
That will be me.
I will fake it just like my Dad faked liking farris wheels until I was old enough to understand.
Thanks Dad :)

Monday night

I was so proud of myself for going out last night for two reasons.
1. Being social
2. Exercise
Then I wake up this morning and my husband notices I have wind burn on my face. That's right. Wind burn. The coldness and wind from last night's walk made my face all red and blotchy... See, this is why exercise is bad...

The lighting made it less red..
My walk last night was very difficult,
One word.
Anxiety.
It's a bitch. Plain and simple.
See here for more information.

Since I was oh so depressed about my red and blotchy face.. I needed a pick me up and remembered the cake pop I had in the fridge at work. Thank you Lori! Soooo delicious. Cake on a stick. Love.

Since my husband's at a meeting.. I made favorite quick and easy meal. Spaghetti with pickles. Yes, pickles. No, not because I'm pregnant. Mmmmmmm. Try it.

Doesn't look as appetizing.. but taste delicious.
And finally.. I just opened my e-mail to find a reply from Erin at Living in Yellow. Thank you Erin! You made my night. You are so sweet! Seriously peeps. Check. Her. Out. Now.

I also have to give a shout out to Janna from Perception is Everything and Kelly from Messy Dirty Hair. I had some questions and these two ladies stepped up and replied quickly. I really appreciate it when successful bloggers help the beginners! Thank you ladies!

It's 8:30pm. I should make my hubby some dinner. Oops.

Walking and talking

So a few things...

1. I'm one of those people who hate exercise. Sorry folks, it's true.
I don't like the pain, the effort, or the time requirement.
Now what I do like is going for walks with my girls. It's a kill two birds with one stone type deal. Nice easy cardio and time with 2 of my favorite ladies.
This is all part of my new "social plan" which I'll explain later. One word. Anxiety.
I'd like to high five it in the face if I could *smack*

Oh.. I forgot my camera so I had to rely on my "trusty" Blackberry. I actually like this picture.
I still want an iPhone though.
As for the weather..It's cold here and supposed to snow tonight. Woohoo!!
I think I'm the only one who's excited about that..
Bundled up and ready to go.
2. I've been asked a few times about my blog.. meaning the theme and audience.
So here are my answers after discussing it with these ladies.
-This blog is for women.
-It's a journal about life.
-There's no niche. It's about everything and anything.
-It's about my past and current struggles with depression and anxiety.
-It's about joyful events with friends, my husband, my pregnancy, and eventually with our baby.
-It's about the things I love yet have no talent for like fashion, make up, art, and crafts.
-It's a way for me to explore more about myself.
-There's no judgement, only acceptance.

So there you have it.

3. The other thing I've been thinking about is my career and where I want to go. It's frustrating at times but I like to think everything happens for a reason and one day, I'll figure it out.

4. I'm seriously falling in love with this iPad (it's my husbands) and really want one of my own.
Like I said before, Christmas is around the corner... That or I may just claim this one. Mouhaha.

5. On a final yet happy note, my new D bra's are getting too small. HA! If you had small tata's your whole life and always wanted bigger ones, you would understand. Yes, I get excited about my boobs. So what?

6. I just had to add one more thing. This baby is moving like CRAZY!! I mean.. wow. Feels like I'm on a rollercoaster.. I don't like rollercoasters.. well.. the ones that go upside down or really fast.. so I guess the majority of them.

That being said.. I'm off to bed. He. That rhymed.

I'm Batman

First off...

You ever have one of those days where you have a meltdown?
You know, the kind where your sleeve is covered with tears and there's piles of kleenex.
No? Me either. I mean that sooo did not happen today.
Ok... maybe a little.. but I'm going to blame it on pregnancy for 3 reasons.
1. Sore hips.
2. Stretching ligaments. Ouch.
3. And the worst...hormones. I blame it all on the hormones.

Now that I've shared that bit of information... I've had a pretty good weekend.
*Today is Week 21. Starting to feel the baby move more which is pretty neat.
*We bought this amazing onesie today. Isn't it adorable!?
I'm Batman.
*I finally set up Google Friend Connect. It's now easier to join my blog :)
*Finally bought some batteries for my camera. No more Blackberry! See picture above.
*I'm starting a fun new challenge in November!
I will write about this soon but it's called "The New ABC Challenge"

Well... That's all I got for you today.
Have a great sleep. Goodnight.

Check this out peeps!

I just started blogging and it's all I keep thinking about! Is that normal? I think so.. I hope so. Oh well. It's exciting and fun.

Here are some fun pics for the nights.
Excuse the mess.. It's been one of those days.. well weeks.. either way it's Friday night and I'm not lifting a finger.

Umm. Whatcha doin?
What can I say, he loves to snuggle!
Anyways, I'm trying to spice up my blog. See above. Seriously though. Bare with me peeps... I'm still learning. This would probably be easier if I had a mentor. (Volunteer?) Well I guess I need to figure it out on my own.. I don't mind. It's quite fun stalking other blogs. That's right. I'm stalking you.

This is my list of what I need so far:
1. Content - Good content.. duh.
2. Followers - Mention me! :)
3. Advertising and Sponsors - Free advertising for now. Seriously, can't go wrong with that.
4. Guest bloggers (fashion, make up, nutrition, fitness, etc)
5. Lastly... I reeeeeaaaally need... ok... want a new template! I love Melissa Rose Design's stuff. Hubby, you payin attention? Christmas is around the corner. Love you.

bump + stripes

A friend of mine posted a picture of her outfit today and I HAD to write about it.
I mean.. Look at these pants! I LOVE the color...
She's one of the lucky ones who can pull it off.
Not bitter at all here.

So after see this, she inspired me to wear something I normally wouldn't wear.
Hello Christmas present.. welcome to the public.
Go figure, it's almost too small for my 20 week bump. Pefect Timing Marci.
But look at me.. I'm wearing color! And red at that! Thanks Emma.

So.. should I ditch the shirt? What are your thoughts?

PS - I always welcome comments.
Especially ones about fashion.

I hate choosing

I decided to do this blog because I love writing and sharing things I come across. But I've come to a point where I really need to sit back and think about where I want this blog to go.
This is my baby (until the real one is born anyways). This is my new hobby.
I want to see what I can do with it.

I'm not one of those people who is talented at anything.
I'm not one of those people who looks absolutely stunning without make up on... like some people I know... bitches. Just kidding. You're beautiful.
I don't have a diploma or degree in a particular career (management doesn't count unless you have experience peeps, keep that in mind)

What I am is a 27 year old receptionist mommy-to-be who
Loves the little things in life
Gets excited about surprises
Gets giddy when I see cute animals
Loves Vodka... mmm.
Loves helping people
Loves arts & crafts
Loves shoes but can't tell you brand names other than Louboutin (that's because of the red soles)
Loves fashion and make up but have no fashion sense/creativity. I love black clothes. Boring, I know.
Loves giving reviews about products or services that I find amazing

So how does a blog succeed? Even I know this... design and content. I'm currently working on both. Hence why I entered a contest that Melissa Rose Design offered.
But I've never been one to choose a niche..whether it be career or now this blog.. because I don't have one. There are too many things in this world that I love

I'm pretty sure this will be a compilation of anything and everything I love. Plain and simple.
Vodka (when I can drink again)
Mommyhood
Arts & Crafts
Budgeting/Organizing
Reviews
Pictures
Cute things
Things that are annoying
Who knows!

So please be patient with me while we share this journey..
I'm sure one day it will all come together :)

20 Weeks!!!

WoW
I made it half way.
That went by sooo fast
I remember when I was 4 weeks
Yes I found out the earliest possible
Reality is starting to set in
...don't panic
I need some ice cream

Ok, so 20 weeks has given me a lot of change.
AMAZING boobage, long nails, stupid heartburn, and a whole lot of belly! That and I don't enjoy weekends anymore because a good nights sleep is gone.. see ya later.. bye bye.

PROGRESS
Last night was the first time I could feel Baby H move with my hands on my belly! How exciting and completely weird at the same time. What an amazing experience.

Sorry peeps.. I'm not one of those people who looks stunning without make up on.. this is what you get because I'm tired and I just took a shower. Love my hubby's PJ pants? They are mine now.

 I just like this one.

Tomorrow is another big day..
20 WEEK ULTRASOUND!
GIRL OR BOY?!

Weekend Recap!

Friday
I entered a contest on a blog I follow for a premade blog design (I oh so need it) *cough*PICK ME*cough* I think it would be a great way to boost my blog!

I found the contest on Living in Yellow which is one of my favorite blogs out there. You can find the contest here http://www.livinginyellow.com/2012/10/if-you-blog-you-will-love-this.html

Melissa Rose Design offers some really great blog templates and add-ons. You can find her stuff here http://www.melissarosedesign.com/

Anyways, moving on....
On my way home from work, I noticed my odometer and for some reason felt the need to take a picture of it. I mean, how often do you notice this stuff?

Saturday
We got our new furniture delivered! YAY!
This might not seem like a big deal but looking for a table that both my husband and I like has been a two year process. Same with the couches.
Plus we couldn't pass up no tax, free delivery, and a REALLY good price!
The couches are awesome because the end units are gliders as well as recliners... which make me a very happy pregnant lady :)

With the middle down and Cosmo posing

TABLE!!!!!!!!
There is a leaf in the middle for a 6 person table :) We use the extra 3 chairs at the breakfast bar.

Random cuteness for the day
Cosmo guarding my niece's Girl Guide cookies

Comet being... well... comet..

AND... SUNDAY
TODAY IS 20 WEEKS!

Paleo

My husband and I did a fitness challenge at the beginning of the year and decided to focus our diet on a paleo lifestyle. It was extremely difficult for me since I love junk food but it just made sense.
I've had a lot of questions about paleo so here is some information about it and I'll post some of our favorite recipes. For the record, we do not currently follow this lifestyle.
I unfortunately prefer my milk, cereal, and cookies over broccoli, chicken, and peppers.
The rules?
No refined sugar. No dairy. No grains.
I took this definition from http://paleodietlifestyle.com/ which is an amazing website by the way.
"A Paleo diet, also known as paleolithic diet or caveman diet, is all about natural foods to help achieve great health and a perfect physique. The human body evolved for more than 2 million years with the food found in nature: game meat, fish, vegetables, wild fruits, eggs and nuts. The human race was thriving on this diet high in animal fat and proteins and low in carbohydrates, but things changed when we introduced unnatural foods to our bodies."

Is this not cute or what?

Nightly cuddle session with my Cosmo.
Maybe tonight he will let me sleep and not drop his toy mouse on my face so he can play fetch.
Love him <3
Goodnight peeps.

Feeling a bit creative

I seen THIS pin on Pinterest and HAD to make it.

My mission for the rest of the year is to better organize my life.
You know the saying, "a cluttered house is a cluttered mind"? Well, I think a tornado went through our house... and my mind. Sure I'm exagerating but I hate spending hours trying to find something that should be right in front of my face.
I do have to admit that my mother tried her hardest to teach me how to be neat and tidy but piling everything into the closest and throwing a blanket on it (thus creating a chair, smart eh?) was more fun and way easier... :)

My first organizational project:

1. Make Up

I decided to go for the inexpensive route for now. I plan on decorating it... eventually.

  • I went through all my makeup, brushes, etc and threw out the old stuff I never use
  • Bought a decent looking magnetic white board
  • Bought sticky magnetic tape (note: buy heavy duty magnets for heavier objects)
  • Then I stuck magets to back of my make up and holders
Voila.. Make up board that can be hung up.
Now my make up doesn't get thrown into a drawer.

The orange case is my GLYMM bag.
The can is the cover to my Jean Paul Gaultier perfume

19 Weeks

Wow.. in 1 week, we get to see Baby H!! Sooo excited! We have decided that we are going to find out the gender.

We fnally agreed on names but they are going to be secret.. so if any of my pregnant friends already have these names picked out, I'm sorry. I've wanted the girls name for a long time and it's the only boy's name we could agree on! :)

19 week update:

I'm starting to feel movements here and there :)

Likes: Boobage (see previous post)

Dislikes: Heartburn (Suuuuucks)

Will update more next Tuesday since I have my 20 week check up that day :)

Boobs.. that's right..

Well.. today is Thanksgiving.. Of course I'm thankful for many things..

My husband, our little bean who keeps sitting on my bladder lately, family, friends, house, jobs, and of course our cats....

BUT.. what am I most thankful for? Well... my newfound boobs. That's right, I said it. But seriously... they appeared over the past week. I started highschool an A, settled to a B, birth controlled to a C, and have now pregnancy'd by way to a D... this is amazing!

So amazing that I bought TWO new bra's today. I took two sizes and slowly marched into the changing stall. Ok.. maybe I bolted in there because I 'm a lunatic about the possibility of fitting into a bigger bra... I was so happy in the changing room that I took a picture and sent it to my husband. .. obviously, I'm not going to post that on here.. but here's the tag ;)

It's amazing how well a shirt can fit when you have the right boobage!
Yes... I understand what's going to happen later on.. but for now, I am quite enjoying these puppies :)

Paleo Cookies

Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies

I have been asked by sooo many people for this cookie recipe but I keep forgetting to give it out. Ooops. We learnt a lot when we were following the paleo lifestyle and have some favorite recipes that I want to share with everyone. These chocolate chips are one of them and they are so delicious.

Here is the recipe from the website we found it on and our modifications to it. Enjoy!

Serves: 24

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract (Pure vanilla can be expensive; we used the cheaper stuff when we didn't have any)
  • 1 1/2 cup Semisweet Chocolate Chips (You can use dark chocolate chips)
  • 1/2 cup melted Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 cup real Maple Syrup
  • 2 whole Eggs (free range)
  • 3 cup Blanched Almond Flour
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Process

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl combine dry ingredients.
  3. In a small mixing bowl beat eggs, maple syrup, and vanilla extract with a hand mixer.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry and beat with hand mixer until combined.
  5. Melt coconut oil, pour into batter, and continue to blend until combined.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. On a parchment-lined baking sheet, drop balls of cookie dough, about a tablespoon in size.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Let cool and serve with coconut milk.
*This recipe is from The Food Lovers Kitchen http://beta.primal-palate.com/recipe/chocolate-chip-cookies/

Yummy desserts!

So I am now 18 weeks pregnant and should technically be eating better but seriously.. who can turn down yummy desserts. I have to admit, my husband was the one who came up with the idea of a baking night so I'm going to blame this on him :) The two desserts we chose are super easy to make.

WARNING: These are NOT healthy at all :)

I chose my absolute favorite chocolate frogs

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 3 cups quick oats

Directions:
  • Mix milk, margarine, sugar, & cocoa in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir and becareful not to burn.
  • Add vanilla, coconut, & oats, mix thoroughly and drop from tablespoon onto wax paper or cookie sheets.
  • Chill to set and enjoy

His choice was Trix Krispies :)

They don't sell Trix in Canada anymore and I completely forgot about them until we went to Florida for our honeymoon and I stumbled upon them at the store :) Whenever my friend goes to the states, she tends to buy me a box :) I love her :)

  • 10 cups Trix
  • 400 gr marshmellow (we used almost double because we like it marshmellow-y)
  • 1/4 cup butter

Directions
Melt butter in large non stick saucepan on medium and add marshmellows.
