Happy 5 Years of Dating! Weekend Update

Friday
Not much happened Friday. Well.. I can't remember actually. Oh... I had a dentist appointment. Those are always fun. No wonder why I couldn't remember. My teeth look perdy though... they even gave me a new toothbrush. I love free stuff.

Then I met up with my girlfriend Meghan (aka bridesmaid) for coffee since we haven't seen each other in a while. She's suffering from College overload right now. By the way, do you still call it "going for coffee" if neither of you drink coffee? I think it's more of a verb personally.

Saturday
Dear Mike:

Five years ago on this day, you took me on my dream date. In that time, you have become my best friend, my husband, my baby daddy; simply put.. you are my everything. You are the most selfless man I know. You spend all your time and energy making sure we have everything we need. Your hard work never goes unnoticed. Every day I find myself falling more and more in love with you. I'm so excited to experience this next chapter with you. You will be the best Daddy in the world. I love you and thank you for giving me the best 5 years of my life. xoxox

I'm all about date nights so of course I wanted us to do something to celebrate 5 years of dating. Since we're on a budget now, we opted for a night in and splurged on some crab legs.

Breakfast: Pancakes from scratch. Mmmm. I could eat breakfast 5 times a day.
Dinner: Steak, crab legs, and pasta alfredo. So. Good.
Movie: Taken 2. Awesome movie. Highly recommended but you have to watch the first one first.

Sunday
35 weeks! 5-ish to go!

The hubby and I relaxed all day and had our first chocolate fondue. A good way to cheer me up before my husband goes out of town for work... Fill me up with chocolate and fruit.

Just so you know: hubby + flying + out of town + 35 week pregnant wife + wife with anxiety issues = a cranky, hormonal, emotional, anxious, pregnant lady.

I found these fondue sets at the dollar store and thought they would make a nice cheap date night.
The only problem is the bottom gets too hot and starts to cook the chocolate after a while.
You get what you pay for I suppose.

Pears/Bananas/Strawberries

Yum.

Sunday Social {Week 4}

What is your ideal way to relax?
Watching a movie with my hubby while pigging out on snacks.... and/or taking a nice hot relaxing bath.
Dream Tub

Where is your favorite place to be?
Home or in Florida swimming with dolphins.

Who do you consider your biggest role model?
I don't really have a role model anymore. I think my role model is the me I hope to transform into as the years go by. She motivates and inspires me. Oh and Heidi Klum. Girl is beautiful, fun (have you seen her parties??), and HILARIOUS. Love her.

What does your life look like in 3 years?
I'll be a mommy to hopefully 2-3 babies (depending if there's twins hehe), have a career or be working towards one, and be debt free; excluding mortgage.

If you could go back and change one decision what would it be?
I can't say that I regret any decision because I believe everything happens for a reason. I wouldn't trade my life for anything.
If I had to choose I would say: do better in school and treat people better. I was very angry in my teen years. Oh and I wouldn't let boyfriends consume and control my life... douchebags.

What is your biggest accomplishment in life thus far?
Meeting and marrying my husband. Seriously. He's the most amazing man ever. I'm so happy the Universe brought us together.

What is your biggest accomplishment so far? Comment below! I would love to hear from you. :)

50 and Twitter Hop!

Wow!  50 GFC followers! Thank you everyone. It's funny how 50 seems like a big deal. I love this blogging thing. It's tough sometimes to come up with ideas... ok, maybe not ideas.. I have tons of drafts already written but they never seem right. I'm working on it though. Need to get my creative groove on.

In the meantime, there's a Twitter hop going on so if you want some exposure, head on over and sign up! It's really easy!

Twitter Hop

I entered a contest tonight (for fun) that is being held by ET Canada to be a guest blogger for the Grammy's. That's right the GRAMMY'S. How cool would tha tbe?! I would probably faint if I got called.

Chances of that actually happening are slim though. I bet you there are thousands of people who have applied and I'm sure they won't be ready to pop! May be a little difficult flying a pregnant lady into the US when she's a few weeks away from her due date.

But who cares! I figured it wouldn't hurt to try, right!

GIVEAWAYS & {Talking Fitness With Bron}

Did you know...???
By The Porchlight has TWO giveaways going on RIGHT NOW!

The first is a group giveaway and expires in a couple of days.
The other is my own! Check out my post and enter the giveaway HERE.

**********************************

Since I'm no fitness expert and can barely run a mile without almost dying, I decided to ask my friend Bron to offer up some fitness information! I'm calling it Talking Fitness With Bron.

Her posts will be devoted to fitness and health. She will post recipes, exercises, class comparisons, fitness fashion favorites, and more. We would love to hear any feedback, questions, and/or suggestions. To start things off, I figured a short introduction would be best! Take it away Bron!

Hello Marce Lips readers! I'm very excited to be a part of Marci's blog!

My name is Bronwyn but I mostly go by Bron. It’s easier to say (people get thrown off by the lack of vowels in the second syllable). I prefer either one though. I’m 33 years old and live in beautiful Kelowna, BC, Canada with my awesome boxer/retriever Roxi and 2 orange tabby cats; Murray and Ceeci.
I'm your typical girl who loves good company, great food, and a glass (or 2) of wine. After sitting at my desk job for many years, I was unhappy with my body image and how I felt. Wellness and fitness have since become a passion and a way of life for me. Running is now my vice; having run a couple half marathons and multiple 5 & 10K’s. I also love yoga - hot, cold, power, yin, easy...whatever! If there’s a savasana, I’m in! I also enjoy cross country skiing, spin class, and bootcamp classes (preferably outdoors). What can I say? I like to get my butt kicked! Working hard is rewarding.
I recently got my weight trainer certification and work part-time as a fitness instructor at a local company called Designer Fitness where I lead a bootcamp style class. You can read more about my fitness career dream here. I'm excited to discuss all topics related to leading a healthy and happy lifestyle. Feeling good starts from the inside.
As my favourite yogi says...namaste and rock on.
Look forward to more next Wednesday!

Facts of Me Hop + Balls

Pizza balls that is. I said I would post the recipe today so I've included it at the bottom!
But first, I stumbled upon this ONE DAY HOP hosted by Whitney.
Basically, it's a bunch of random facts about yourself!

Straws
Whenever I drink from a straw, I have to pinch it so barely anything comes out.

Pickles
I eat pickles inside out. Yes, it's possible.

Control
I'm a control freak. It's something I'm gradually working on.

Ducks
I have a rubber duck/anything duck collection. I love ducks.

Gossip
I am obsessed with celebrity gossip.

Organized
I'm extremely disorganized in an organized fashion which is extremely frustrating.

Planner
I love planning, organizing, researching, and promoting.

Sleep talking
I talk (and sometimes jump on the bed screaming at the curtains) in my sleep. It usually scares the crap out of my husband but he seems to be getting used to it.

Bilingual
I am *technically* bilingual in English and French although the French part is
very a bit rusty. I would love to learn Spanish.

Holding hands
If my husband and I are holding hands, I can’t separate them to go around something. If he goes one way, I have to follow the same way and vice versa. When I turn one way; I have to turn back the same. If I don't, I get anxiety. It’s messed up.

Anxiety
I have anxiety issues. Planes, being alone at night, spiders, and natural disasters cause me panic attacks. Yet I can speak to 100+ people at an event no problem. My anxiety is irrational based.
Well sorry to burst your bubble Doc, but I don't understand how 2 people controlling a huge heavy metal box thousands of feet in the air hitting invisible potholes is irrational… that's all I'm sayin'.

Hair
I love having my hair played with. It’s now a form of bribery my husband uses.

Memory
I have a bad memory. I don't even remember what I was going to write next.

Education
I would rather be in school full-time than work.

******************************************

Onto the next topic. Pizza Balls! Mmmmm.
I found a Pizza Balls recipe on Pinterest so we decided to try it.

Our version

Ingredients
  • Homemade pizza dough in the breadmaker (I used 1/2 tsp each of garlic bits & italian this time)
  • 3 meats pizza toppings
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Parmesan
  • Pizza sauce

Roll dough and cut into squares (or circles). Stack meat and cheese on top. Gather up the edges of the dough. Line up rolls in a greased pan. Brush with beaten egg. Sprinkle with Parmesan.

Bake at 425 for 20-30 minutes depending on how crispy you like it.

Dip away and eat. I would have preferred a cheese sauce instead of the pizza sauce myself.

Enjoy!

Weekend Update + Giveaway

I had a very relaxing and lame weekend for the most part. Mind you, my weekend wasn't exactly a weekend. I began maternity leave on Tuesday and my husband took a few days off to spend time with me so we had 5 days together!

Friday
  • Delivered some furniture to my mother's that we gave her.
  • Stopped by my work for an hour to help out the new "me".
  • "Finished" a painting..Still not sure if it's really done yet.

Saturday
  • Met up with my brother for ice cream after his drawing class. It was nice to just chat.
  • My hubby worked Saturday night so I basically sat around creeping Pinterest. I know, pretty lame right? I have no life.

Sunday
  • Grocery shopping! One of my favorite things to do is grocery shopping! I don't know why. Maybe it's the challenge of trying to stay under budget. I've created a very strict budget since my pay is slashed so being $45 under made me one happy girl.
  • I kept seeing these homemade pizza balls on Pinterest so last night we decided to make them. They were a success! I will post the recipe tomorrow though. I have some cleaning to do and dinner to prepare. I'm sure my husband would prefer if I didn't sit around all day browsing on Pinterest, Facebook, or blog stuff... hehe.
Don't they look yummy?

Weekend Update - Please send positive energy

Hello everyone. It's that time for a weekend update. Unfortunately, the weekend didn't start out great.
I ask all of you, whether it's 2 people or 200, to please send your positive thoughts, energy, prayers whatever you believe in to my 4 year old nephew for a speedy recovery.

Friday
My brother called to chat because we hadn't talked in a while. They were in sunny California.. Disneyland to be exact.. while we had 2 snow storms that rarely happen here. Good timing. While on the phone, I heard my brother say to my nephew "Whoa there homeboy that was close" then to my shock.. my 4 year old nephew unleashed a screech like nothing I've ever heard before and my brother said "OMG" and hung up the phone.
I waited.
I called him back after 7 minutes and my brother frantically said "I think he broke his leg. We're waiting for the ambulance." to which I replied "I'll meet you at the hospital". It was revealed by xray that my nephew fractured his femur. Poor thing. He will be in a double leg and hip cast for the next 6-8 weeks.

Saturday
We went to the hospital to visit my nephew for a bit.
The hubs and I decided to finally watch "Ted". When the first preview came out, I seriously thought it was a joke. Then I realized it was for real. I thought it looked so horrible. Wow, I was wrong. I loved it! My hubs? Not so much. But seriously, it's a talking teddy bear! Love it.

Sunday
Sunday's mark another week of pregnancy: WEEK 33.
This week is also my last week of work.. and by last week, I mean last 2 days!
I have so many things I want to do and look forward to having some me time over the next several weeks... *hopefully*.. Baby H stay put for a while. We finished a few things in the baby's room and made some homemade cheese stuffed hamburgers for dinner. Mmmmm.

That's about it!
How was your weekend?

Sunday Social {Week 2}

Sunday Social

This Weeks Questions: Lets Reintroduce ourselves shall we?

1. What is the name of your blog? How long have you been blogging?
My blog is Marce Lips and I'm a newbie to the blogging world. I've been blogging since September 2012.

2. Why do you blog?
I don't have a hobby but I've always loved writing so I thought I would try blogging. My life has always been an open book so I love sharing my experiences or things I find interesting. It's also a great way to meet new people.

3. What is the first blog you ever followed?
Erin at Living in Yellow

4. What is your favorite post you wrote in 2012?
My anxiety post because it was very personal. It's something people struggle with on a daily basis and I want people to understand more about it. A lot of people don't know I have it or what I go through on a daily basis. It's one topic I want to go more in depth with this year.

5. What are your blogging goals for 2013?
Grow my follower base
Write interesting posts
Get an iPhone so I can take better pictures (DONE.. well the iPhone part)
Sign up and learn Instagram (Signed up this morning. Still have no idea how to use it)

32 Week Pregnancy Update

I'm officially snowed in this morning. Well, the roads are bad thus leaving me snowed in.
I haven't needed winter tires since I moved here 4 years ago but this year, Mother Nature decided to change things up a bit. Great timing by the way.. while I'm pregnant.
I had to call my boss this morning so someone could pick me up for work because I don't feel comfortable driving... Which says a lot. I love winter driving. I also love making snowballs and chucking them at people. Why couldn't we get this storm (10-15cm) yesterday? Sigh.

Moving on...

I tried out a new blog hop the other day I found on Wifessionals called "I love my post". It's such a neat idea! I love blog hops. It's a great way to find new blogs, meet new people, and gain new followers. One of the blogs I found is called Shary Loves You. Of course I loved her post because it was pregnancy related... so I've decided to steal her questionnaire.. hehe.

How far along? 32 weeks

Total weight gain: 25lbs

Sleep: Sleep is tough. My husband constantly asks me why I make so much noise when I move around throughout the night. Well.. It could be the basketball sized stomach I now have which makes me have to pee 3-4 times a night and makes it difficult to move. Oh.. don't forget the plugged nose. Thank you breathe right!

Maternity clothes: Not really. I bought a pair of leggings and dress pants but they dont really fit anymore. I just wear my lululemons and sweatpants. I'm lucky because I just went up a size in regular clothes. Plus, I don't agree with paying $60 for a pair of pants that I'll only wear for 2 months.

Stretch marks? Not yet. Knock on wood.

Best moment this week: Watching a peak.. I'm talking a 1" triangle stick out of my belly and gliding across it. Both my husband and I jumped and started laughing at the same time.

Miss anything? Being able to sleep on my back and belly. Going for massages/facials. Going in hot tubs. Cuddling with my hubby/kitties.

Movement: All the time. Love it. His head is already in position with his bum/legs under my right rib so I'm constantly being kicked.

Cravings?: Nope

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope

Labor signs: Nope

Symptoms: Well... I have nicer hair, nails, and a clearer face. Oh and I love the new boobage. Boobage is good. The whole clevage thing is new to me.. loving it! I had heartburn really bad between 3-6 months.

Belly button in or out? In-ish.. but kind of in the middle.

Rings on or off? Belly ring out but engagement/wedding rings still on normally :)

Happy or moody most of the time: I cry easier and I get really cranky if I don't sleep well.

Baby related purchases?: We bought some more wipes and bought a box of diapers. this week.

Looking forward to: Baby shower, which isn't until February, and meeting our little man!

Sunday Social Week 1

First Sunday Social of the year!
Hope you enjoy it.

1. Do you plan to change any of your eating habits in the new year?
I say that every year and it never happens. I think it will be a lot easier when I go on maternity leave since I'll have more time...well.. until the baby comes but that's why we've been preparing frozen meals!

2. Any workout tips to get us back in shape after the Holidays?
Don't overload yourself. Start off with small changes and integrate them into your daily life. Jumping into a 5-7 day workout regime when you haven't worked out on a regular basis will likely overwhelm you and cause you to crash and burn... especially if you aren't eating properly. Just start things off slowly and gradually progress over time.

3. Favorite thing you did over the Holidays?
Spending Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at my brothers.
Celebrating New Year's Eve with my hubby and friends. Nothing better than games, food, and socializing!

4. What is something you hope that you accomplish in 2013 that you did not in 2012?
Have a baby of course! Looks like I'm on the right track since I'm due in 8 weeks!
I'm also hoping to grow this here blog, work on my anxiety, and do more creative stuff.

5. Name 3 things happening this year you are excited about and why?

1. February/March. Looking forward to meeting our baby boy! I've wanted this for so long and can't believe it's finally happening!

2. January 15th. 1 year maternity leave. Nuff said.

3. July. The possibility of going home (across the country) for my grandmother's 80th birthday and a 10 year high school reunion. (If we even do one). I graduated with 5 other people.. It's a bit different than most high school reunions!

Yummy homemade lasagna

Mmm homemade lasagna. The first time we made lasagna, it didn't turn out very well.
I'm very happy with the results of this recipe. We made some modifications.
So here you go readers! Enjoy and have a date night with your significant other or a glass of wine!

Lasagna
Changes we made are in pink

Recipe - Original recipe makes 12 servings

Directions
     1. In a Dutch oven, cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
I used a saucepan because I don't even know what a dutch oven is. I told you.. I don't cook.

     2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8 - 10 minutes. Drain noodles, and rinse with cold water. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
CHANGE: See picture below. We used a pyrex dish, placed the noodles in it, and covered them with boiling water from a kettle for 30 minutes. Perfectly fine and that way, the noodles don't break and cook evenly.
Remember the egg. Otherwise spreading ricotta cheese can be difficult. I may have forgotten this step when telling my husband the layers. Luckily, I re-read everything halfway through.

     3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
We are freezing ours so no need!

     4. To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil: to prevent sticking, either spray foil with cooking spray, or make sure the foil does not touch the cheese.

     5. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional 25 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.

 Bon Appetit!

The sauce

Prepping the noodles
Fill with boiling water

We bought these freezable containers at the Dollar Store.
It's a great idea especially if you're pregnant so you have ready to go meals!
Pop em in the oven and voila.

 Yum.

I'm Movin On

2013 Motto
"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
 - George Bernard Shaw

This year is all about transformation. Why? I'm going to be a mom. That changes everything! It's an exciting and scary feeling at the exact same time. I mean how am I supposed to be a good mom when I have so much "baggage"? You would think I'd be over things that happened 5, 10, or 15 years ago, but I'm not. I've subconsciously enjoyed torturing myself for years. You would think I would have a handle on my anxiety more so than I do, but I don't.
Well, enough is enough.

In order for me to have a great marriage, be a good mom, and maintain relationships with family and friends, I need to LET GO of shiz. I need to work on my anxiety. I need to live life to its fullest.
That's right. No more anger. No more resentment. No more fear.
I can't change the past and I can't worry about the future either.

I'm very thankful for music. I love all kinds of music, especially country.
Country music can be personal. I can relate to songs. There's a story behind them, a meaning... there's passion. And every now and then, I hear a song that inspires me, like last night.

My husband bought me the Rascal Flatts CD for Christmas. Yes, I still use CD's. My iPod was recently stolen from my unlocked car thank you very much. It's fitting that I stumbled upon this song as I was driving home. I posted the lyrics for those who don't like country music. If you're in a tough spot in your life, I dedicate this song to you.

Rascal Flatts - I'm Movin On

Lyrics

"I'm Moving On"

I've dealt with my ghosts and I've faced all my demons
Finally content with a past I regret
I've found you find strength in your moments of weakness
For once I'm at peace with myself
I've been burdened with blame, trapped in the past for too long
I'm movin' on

I've lived in this place and I know all the faces
Each one is different but they're always the same
They mean me no harm but it's time that I face it
They'll never allow me to change
But I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong
I'm movin' on

I'm movin' on
At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me
And I know there's no guarantees, but I'm not alone
There comes a time in everyone's life
When all you can see are the years passing by
And I have made up my mind that those days are gone

I sold what I could and packed what I couldn't
Stopped to fill up on my way out of town
I've loved like I should but lived like I shouldn't
I had to lose everything to find out
Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road
I'm movin' on

I'm movin' on
I'm movin' on

Are there any songs you connect to right now?

Who doesn't like homemade pizza?

You know what's awesome? Homemade food.
You know what's even better than homemade food? When someone else makes it for you.
But that wasn't the case Friday night. My hubby and I tackled homemade pizza and lasagna.
I actually helped. It's called team work. He does the work while I supervised.
Just kidding...
Since I got an iPad for Christmas, we decided to put my All Recipes app to good use!
I thought I would share the pizza recipe we used! Mmm.

Homemade Pizza
Changes we made are in pink
Recipe
Directions

     1. Pour the warm water into the pan of the bread machine, and add the flour on top of the water. Sprinkle with salt and sugar, and top with the yeast. Set the machine on the dough setting, and push the start button. When the machine signals that the dough is finished, transfer to a well-floured work surface.
I added approx 1- 2 tsp (each) of italian seasoning and garlic bits to the flour because we wanted a herb dough. Be careful; a little goes a long way.

     2. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

      3. Roll or stretch the dough out into thin crust about 14 inches across. Leave dough thick at the edge. Place the dough onto a 14-inch pizza baking sheet, and brush the dough with the olive oil.
Make sure you really roll the dough if you want a thin crust. It might look thin but I found it was still a bit thick for us. Next time, we will go thinner.
We also couldn't find our pizza sheet so we used a cookie sheet. We brushed a bit of olive oil to the sheet so the dough wouldn't stick.

     4. Bake in preheated oven for 5 minutes before removing to top with desired ingredients for final baking.
For some reason it doesn't tell you how long to cook the pizza so I think it's based on how crispy you want it. We had it in there for approx 15-20 minutes and that was really crispy.

Enjoy!

I love our breadmaker.

Yummy herb dough.

We like different toppings.

Cosmo being a cutie pie while we waited.

Might not look pretty but it sure tasted delicious!

It tasted so good!

What's your favorite homemade dish?
