I stumbled upon this homemade strawberry ice cream recipe and decided to give it a whirl. I am proud to say that a) it turned out edible, which is always a good thing and b) it was super delicious. I used local strawberries and we're planning on using cherries next time.
My 2 suggestions:
1. If you don't have an ice cream maker, do this instead.
Add ingredients to smaller freezer bag. Fill large freezer bag with ice and add 6 TBSP of salt. Place small bag in large bag. Shake for 10 minutes until it thickens. It gets cold so wrap it with a towel.
2. Let it thaw a bit before eating. It hardens more than traditional ice cream.
Is it sad that I look forward to sad days now?
Oh this looks delicious and I always assumed you needed a maker (which I don't have) so I shall have to give this a whirl.

this really looks good - I do have an ice cream maker but haven't used it at all this year (and only once last year with our horrific weather that caused numerous power outages) but eventhough its nearing the end of summer - I think I will break it out and try this one before my Jenn goes back to school
ReplyDeleteHome-made ice cream sounds great! I love ice cream but not the very sweet ones. With this, you can adjust the sweetness according to your taste. Also, would love to try this with other flavors. What other flavors have you tried making?
